Vintage cushion

This year I decided that I wanted to do more handmade gifts for people not because I am being cheap and since when is craft cheap ha ha but because I think it is more special...

One gift I wanted to make was a cushion for Brianna for her birthday ...

Well I was late giving it to her but I think that's part of doing handmade gifts you cant control how long it takes to make....

I started with this vintage doiley I just loved the embroidery on it  and I cut it in half .Which is good because I have another one to do another cushion one day...

I used a pencil and wrote the little verse on the pillow.

Then I just started to stitch it doing little back stitches.I used brown cotton as I thought black would be too harsh...

When I finished the embroidery I used to eraser to rub any pencil marks off....

The verse I used was....

A mother holds her children's hands for awhile
But holds their hearts forever....

Now  I have never done patchwork before but I knew I wanted to use these vintage sheet fat quarters that I bought off Etsy......

I also knew that I really wanted that look ......

So I decided just do it .....

I had a basic idea on what to do and I thought if it goes wrong I will just use one piece on its own for the backing....

Oh the main problem I had is that I don't measure things properly so some squares where a little bigger than the others but hey it adds to the charm ha ha ha

Then I just stitched the doiley onto my patchwork piece.....

And then just made a cushion back .Which was basically  a piece of the vintage sheeting I sewed around three sides and a bit turned it in and stuffed the cushion then just hand stitched the opening and Whola she was done...

I am quite happy on how it turned out.

There are a few well a lot of mistakes and next time I will do things differently like doing the stitching a bit further down on the doiley.....

The main thing is that Brianna loved it which made me very happy.....

Today I am sharing at Wow us Wednesdays
