Lisa's Easy Vanilla Slice...

Our friends Alan and Lisa came over yesterday for a BBQ lunch and as usual Lisa made dessert...

I don't really like desserts (I just look like I do ) but OMG this was so delish....I mean really delish....

So I begged ( well I asked ) for the recipe and she so graciously gave it to me who in turn is sharing it with you all....

Lisa's Easy Vanilla Slice....

you will need

2 packets of Arnotts lattice biscuits
1 packet of vanilla pudding mix
600ml of thickened cream

Just beat until mixture is thick.
Lay lattice biscuits flat onto a tray.
Spread mixture over biscuits evenly....
Put another layer of lattice  biscuits on top of mixture.
Make up a passionfruit icing and pour over the top

mmmm yum smells great

Refrigerate....Told you it was easy....

Now here is the tricky bit ....

Cut biscuits into single serves and then hide them...

Yes you heard me right....HIDE THEM !!!!!

Hide them in the cupboard....

Hide them in the oven (just don't turn it on or else you will have vanilla soup)

Hide them under your bed for a midnight snack....

Just hide them anywhere you can because if you don't you will regret it because they will be all gone by others eating them and when you go to the fridge to get one you will find out that either a hungry husband or a cute little boy both with sticky fingers will have eaten them before you got a chance to have one.....boo hoo .

I am not joking these are so delish and you will not wish to share them with anyone...

So Kevin I have a few extra things I need to get from the shops today when you get the groceries...

"OK what are they?" Kevin said innocently

"I can't tell you it's a secret"

And then I got that look from Kevin that I am so used to.....he he he

winter garden

Just showing you some of the plants that are growing (I mean surveying) in my garden  this Winter...and some new ones that have replaced the dead ones....I am usually not too bad at growing plants but being sick means I don't get out into the garden much anymore (well not at all ) and Kevin tends to really be hard when he trims the plants while I tend to like plants blending in to each other.
So while I can't do anything I cant (well I still try to ) say anything to Kevin about how he does it wrong his way....

We had to replace my lavender as Kev trimmed it back but was too hard with it and they died. So we bought  new ones and by the time Summer comes they will be all one bush, and will be looking beautiful.I cant imagine a garden without lavender it is just so pretty and smells divine....

These little pansy surprise me.They were in a pot but the heat of Summer killed them anyway these cute ones just grew  out of a tiny crack in the footpath, I couldn't bear getting rid of them. They make me smile to think they just grew without any help and have survived....

We put two new gardenias in the front garden for a change as I had a big gap..

I don't know what this is called but it so pretty and is growing out the front...I love how the colour looks against the render of our house it changes all the time but it still looks good any way...

My agapanthas are looking good. They kind of die off after summer but now they are thriving...It is a really hot space against the fence where they are  but they seem to like it and I love it when they are in flower...PERFECTION....

I love this red /purple grass. It is in a pot out the front it tends to die off then come back better than before.. It also seems to like this spot where it is hot and gets little shade and it loves water .

....
I will never plant English Boxus again....Finally after 6 years they are almost merging into the hedge I want. They are so slow growing .Looks nice but too slow for me...

So that's it for the front yard I will do the back yard when I can get down those stairs-
have a great weekend

The tissue box from hell....

That's exactly how it felt .....The tissue box from hell....

Have you ever started doing a craft project thinking it was going to be a fast easy one?

Yep....

Have you ever had that so called "project" stuff up in more ways than it seems worth it?

Yep....

Well that happened to me this week. What started out as me making the LM a tissue box cover for his room ended in tears and me threatening to smash it to pieces....

All over a little cardboard box !!!

I will start from the start...

I love hankies but for the LM to use at home I prefer tissues.LM takes a hankie to school everyday in his pocket (how cute) and at home he has a box of tissues on his bed side table.

The trouble is I hate the designs that the tissues come in plus having a 5 year old pull the tissues out really does put the pressure on the box to stay intact.

Well I started looking for a cover for his tissues everywhere but couldn't find one (now I know why no one is stupid enough to make them) then I remembered that I had one in my office that I never used anymore. So I went and checked it out and thought "yeah this is great just paint it white and add some washi tape around the bottom for added colour....

Yeah yeah yeah famous last words.......

The tissue box seemed to be made out of heavy card or 2mm mdf (Kevin thinks cardboard) it had crackle paint all over it and a stencilled heart on the front and a bit of antiquing around the edges.Old fashioned now but it looked really good when I had a country theme going on.....

                                                                The original tissue box...

Out came the white spray paint and mmmm looks good......I didn't take take a photo of the box sprayed white cause I forgot. Anyway it was just a white box nothing special YET!

Well that didn't work.....

When I saw that it had bleed through I could have kicked my self for not using primer...Oh No this was suppose to be an easy project. So out came the sander for a quick sand and then the  primer was brushed on...

Problem fixed.......

That didn't work and it still bled through and because I sanded it and it was "cardboard?" it went kind of funny in sections...

ARRGHHHH!!!

OK what to do now???

So I got out my new favourite colour spray paint  and sprayed it apple green...

BIG MISTAKE...

You can see how I was a bit heavy with the spraying and she ran about.

#$%^ I was so angry...

So I gave it a very light sand and then sprayed another light coat of the apple green paint and crossed my fingers.

It looked fine wet but I still had fingers crossed till it was dry...

OMG she looked OK. There was some weird spots here and there  but I didn't care as I was going to put my washi tape there so it would hide the marks.(hopefully)

So out came the tape and I just went around with one colour then added another  (I am crazy as I am too lazy to mark anything so I just eyed it .... out Yes I have no patience but hey it worked ha ha )

And around and around with more tape.

Thankfully I love spots so I had heaps of colours to use...

To finish off I had this thicker Chevron red tape and that look good. Then I added the bunting tape which is one of my favorites....

I even put two little pieces of this tape on the top just to finish it off....

So for all that crap that went one in the last couple of days I am really happy how it finally turned out...

I have learnt my lesson and will try some patience (fat chance of that happening ).If I had patience I would have given the box a couple of coats of primer (well I would have got Kevin to do it he he he )
that way it would have been done properly and the white paint would have gone on correctly.

So even though I wanted a white tissue box the apple green goes well with the room and the best thing is LM loves it  and he will love it till he either breaks it or pulls the tape off...

Oh the joys of a frustrated crafter.....

Hey just for those observant people who notice EVERYTHING in pictures what do you think of the new colour on the LM's bead board and walls??

It is Dulux's Lexicon quarter and we are going to redo the whole house in this.More on this later...

These sample colours don't really show their true colours but it will give you an idea.China white is a beige and Lexicon quarter is a beautiful bright white.
Big difference but like I said more on this later....

Out of the mouths of babes.........

LM wandered into my bedroom the other day with a picture he had drawn years ago....

"Dee I need to tell you something..."

Oh no please don't have broken anything PLEASE.............

He proceeds to get his picture and put a push pin on the wall under my window and hang his picture from this...."Dee your room is disgusting and you need my pictures to brighten it  up and make your room beautiful"

While my mouth is open and just hanging there he looks at me and smiles and walks out...........

Gee thanks for that LM........

Then the other night he was reading his home reader to me and there in the book was a picture of a  family sitting at the table eating dinner.LM said"look that's us" oh how sweet I thought.....

Then he said "that's me that's Da that's Nana that's Kerry That's Jaxon " while pointing to each person in the picture..

"hey where's me" I asked....

"oh you are in your bedroom"

 thanks brat

I guess because I spend so much time in my room sick I eat most of my meals in here because I have the heater on full that he just associates me being sick all the time.

I laughed when he said it but afterwards I got upset but thought he is just a little boy he doesn't realise he hurt me.

Anyway he is still a brat but he is MY brat.

Vegemite.

Do you remember this song....
Oh God I do I use to sing it to Kerry and now sing it to the LM .I think everyone knows this song........I guess you could call this a very successful advertising campaign....
We are just like millions of other Australians that would have a jar of Vegemite in their pantry.

But did you know this about Vegemite...

It was first made in 1922 after  a group of chemists were asked to develop a spread from one of the richest know natural sources of vitamin B-Brewers Yeast...

When they had developed the product they held a nationwide competition to name it and a anonymous person came up with the name Vegemite..

In 1954 the above song was written and it has become a household ditty...

22 million jars of Vegemite are sold every year.

If you have an tooth ache or mouth ulcer you can apply vegemite to the area and it will help cure it as it is a pure source of Vitamin B.... yes this does work we have done this numerous times...

Kerry has been eating Vegemite since she was a baby......

Please don't kill me Kerry for using these pictures you were such a cute little Vegemite.....

Bad photo quality -sorry.We even had Vegemite t'shirts.....
See Kerry you were so cute even in this outfit and look at the little joggers you were wearing...Sorry they weren't Nike.....

What you don't have a  jar of Vegemite in your house!!!!!!!!

OMG do you know what you are missing out on?

Little Man loves Vegemite but why is it whenever kids eat Vegemite it ends up all over their face? I mean apart from making a cute photo why does it happen?

This was the LM's first taste of Vegemite and look he has it on his face as well. He use to just suck the toast with Vegemite on it.

He still loves toast and Vegemite just now he eats it doesn't suck it ha ha   ...and it can be found regularly in his lunch box on his sandwiches...

                                                                      Worm biscuits....

                                                                     What the #&^%???

Have you never had worm biscuits before?????

Worm biscuits were a favourite of Kerry's when she was little now the LM eats them as well...It is just rye vita biscuits spread with butter and Vegemite then you put two together and squash them ...all the butter and Vegemite comes squishing out the holes in the biscuit hence the name "worm"biscuits....Understand now...

Oh God please don't tell me you have never had these before .It's nearly unAustralian.....

I can  remember eating Vegemite sandwiches when I was a child. Yeah that long ago...ha ha

Can you remember eating them?

And for my last comment on the subject of  Vegemite I thought I would leave you with this fact...

In 2009 the One Billionth Jar of Vegemite was made.

That means there is lots of happy little Vegemite's dancing around households in Australia....
